Who killed Cock Robin?
|
|
*Nursery rhyme for which both a mythological and a historical source have been proposed. The former relates it to a Norse legend, the death of Balder, and the latter to the fall from power of Robert *Walpole in 1742 (the rhyme was first printed in about 1744). But the sequence of everyday creatures offering to take part in the funeral of poor Cock Robin seems to need no explanation beyond that of being a simple childish entertainment.
