The Dardanelles gun was once part of a great battery of huge guns kept by the Ottoman Turks in the forts guarding the straits of the Bosphorus. It was cast in 1464, and is made in two huge bronze sections that screw together. Similar guns were used at the siege of Constantinople a few years earlier. Assembled it is 5.18 m long, and weighs 20 tons. xix.164
