A doctor inserts a laryngoscope into the throat of a woman who has stopped breathing in order to pass the ventilation tube which will be attached to a life support machine. At this stage, her EEG activity is unknown but the brain can only go without blood for 4 minutes without suffering irreversible damage. Attempts at resuscitation after this period poses ethical issues.
