Tintern Abbey

Tintern Abbey was founded for the Cistercian order in 1131 in the beautiful Wye valley, 'far from the concourse of men'. The remarkably complete abbey church was rebuilt in the later thirteenth and early fourteenth centuries. There are also extensive remains of the cloister and associated monastic buildings. This view shows the north-east corner of the abbey church.
