Several armours ascribed to Tipu Sultan survive, in the Royal Collection at Windsor castle, the Scottish United Services Museum in Edinburgh. This one was previously in the collection of the Duke of York, and it is likely that it came direct from Seringapatam. It is an armour of quilted fabric covered with embroidered red velvet, and reflects a very ancient style of armour worn in south India. xxvia.139
