Concentration Camp Survivors from Belson, April 1945 Lord Russell, in his account of Nazi war crimes estimated that over 5 million European Jews were murdered and argued that this constituted "the greatest crime in world history". At the Nuremberg war trials, held after the war was over, G”ring and the other defendants claimed that the Nazi regime had been wholly dominated by the will of one man - Hitler. These photographic images reveal something of the depths of human misery caused by war but also of the relief and joy of liberation and even of hope for the future.
