Yorkshire Post
|
|
Yorkshire's daily newspaper, based in Leeds and descending from a weekly founded in 1754 – the Leeds Intelligencer. After more than a century it was given the name Yorkshire Post, in 1866, and was at the same time transformed by the Yorkshire Conservative Newspaper Company into a daily paper supporting the Conservative cause (a commitment no longer automatically applying). For much of the 20C the Yorkshire Post and the Manchester Guardian, either side of the Pennines, were seen as a pair – England's two leading regional newspapers. But the Yorkshire Post has not followed the *Guardian in moving to a fully national status and circulation.
