James Wyatt
|
|
(1746–1813) Architect who worked both in the neo-classical style (the interior of *Heveningham) and in neo-Gothic (most notably the extravaganza of Fonthill Abbey for *Beckford). His ignorant 'improvements' of several cathedrals later earned him the title of 'the Destroyer'. His father and two of his brothers were architects, his son Benjamin (1775–c.1850) followed him in the profession, and *Wyatville was related.
