(c.1395, National Gallery) The name commonly given to a pair of linked paintings which show the English king *Richard II (kneeling in the left panel) being presented to the Virgin and Child (with attendant angels in the right panel). It is not known whether it was painted in England or on the Continent, for it is in the style known as *International Gothic, practised throughout western Europe. Its name derives from its having been at *Wilton House for more than two centuries before it came to the National Gallery.
