willow pattern

A much repeated English ceramic design in the Chinese style, the ingredients of which are a bridge with figures on it, a willow tree, a pagoda, a boat and a distant island. There were many similar patterns in Europe at the time, but this particular group is believed to have been designed by Thomas *Minton for *Spode in about 1780. It was eventually copied even in China.
