(London W1) Concert hall in Wigmore Street which has been particularly associated with artists making their debuts in London. It opened in 1901 as the Bechstein Hall, built by the German piano manufacturer Friedrich Bechstein as an extension of his London showrooms. Appropriated in 1914, on the outbreak of war, it reopened under its present name in 1917.
