Westbury White Horse

(26km/16m SE of Bath) As at *Uffington, the local tradition is that the chalk figure on the hillside commemorates a victory by Alfred the Great over the Danes, in this case at nearby Edington in 878. However, there is no evidence that the white horse at Westbury existed earlier than the 18C.
