(1849–1930, kt 1904) The most prolific architect of public buildings around the turn of the century. Among his best known are the *Victoria and Albert Museum, the law courts and the university in Birmingham, and the entire processional route in central London from the façade of *Buckingham Palace along the Mall to *Admiralty Arch. He often worked in partnership with Edward Ingress Bell (1826–1914).
