Vauxhall
|
|
Car company which began production in 1903 in London's Vauxhall district and moved in 1905 to Luton, in Bedfordshire. The Vauxhall company was known before World War I for its expensive models, and in particular for one of the world's first sports cars – the Prince Henry, which later evolved into the Vauxhall 30/98. In 1925 the company was bought by the American firm of General Motors; Vauxhall then moved gradually into the position which it still holds, as one of the chief manufacturers in Britain of a wide range of everyday cars.
