Utopia
|
|
(1516) Work of political and social speculation, written in Latin by Thomas *More. It describes a happy state, discovered by a traveller, in which the people live communally without private property, a national system of education is offered to boys and girls alike, and there is complete religious toleration. The name Utopia was coined by More and is based on two similar-sounding Greek phrases, one implying 'good place' and the other 'no place'.
