Tyne
|
|
River in northeast England, only 48km/30m in length from where the North Tyne (rising in Northumberland near the Scottish border) and the South Tyne (rising in Cumberland, in the Pennines) join at Hexham to flow together, as the Tyne, past Newcastle and into the North Sea between Tynemouth and Southshields. For more than half its length it is the artery of the industrial area of Tyneside.
