(8km/5m E of Truro) Woodland gardens created over two centuries by the descendants of Thomas Hawkins, who in the mid-18C planted many of the trees which now provide the essential framework. Among them, in the early 20C, George Johnstone added a profusion of shrubs and smaller trees from all over the world – in particular camellias, rhododendrons, magnolias, maples and birches – many of them of considerable rarity. The resulting 12ha/28ac garden is a delight to layman and specialist alike.
