(1886–1980) Author of a string of nine successful farces between the wars, which became known as the Aldwych farces because they were first produced at the Aldwych Theatre in London. The best known now are the first two, A Cuckoo in the Nest (1925) and Rookery Nook (1926). Two famous regulars in the casts were Robertson Hare and Ralph Lynn.
