or teddy boys Followers of a teenage fashion in the 1950s, characterized by sideburns, long velvet-collared jackets and drain-pipe trousers; the name reflected the belief that this was the style of Edwardian dandies in the reign of *Edward VII. Teddy boys and their accompanying teddy girls alarmed their elders by going about in gangs. By the 1960s they had been largely replaced by *mods and rockers.
