Tantallon Castle
|
|
(45km/28m E of Edinburgh) One of Scotland's most dramatically situated castles, perched on a promontory jutting into the sea opposite *Bass Rock. A stronghold of the powerful and unruly Douglas family from the 14C, it was abandoned as a ruin after a siege in the 17C. Even so its crumbling red walls and towers still give a powerful and dramatic impression.
