Pseudonym of Leslie Ward (1851–1922, kt 1918), who from 1873 to 1909 published portrait caricatures of the famous figures of the age in *Vanity Fair. Immediately recognizable as by Spy, these elongated figures in muted colours can be found hanging in the corridors of innumerable clubs and country houses in Britain.
