(11km/7m SE of Liverpool) Timber-frame building, mainly of the 16C, built round a courtyard and very little altered. The great parlour has a spectacular stucco ceiling of the early 17C with motifs of fruits and flowers. The two yews in the courtyard, known as Adam and Eve, are believed to be even older than the house.
