(1771–1845) Clergyman remembered for his wit. He said of Macaulay that 'the occasional flashes of silence make his conversation perfectly delightful', and declared his own idea of heaven to be 'eating pâtés de foie gras to the sound of trumpets'. He was a leading member of the *Holland House set.
