SEATO

(Southeast Asia Treaty Organization)
An alliance against Communist aggression formed in 1954 after the French defeat in southeast Asia (the area known then as Indochina). The members were Australia, France, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Thailand, the UK and the USA. It was never very effective (the SEATO nations did not support the USA in the Vietnam War) and it was dissolved in 1977.
