Scottish baronial

Modern term for the style of architecture of Scottish fortified houses up to the 17C (such as *Glamis or *Craigievar), characterized by round turrets with steep conical roofs. The term is particularly applied to the 19C revival of this style, in which David *Bryce was the leading architect and of which *Balmoral is a prime example.
