Giles Gilbert Scott
|
|
(1880–1960, kt 1924) Architect, grandson of George Gilbert *Scott, who in 1903 won the competition for the new Anglican cathedral in *Liverpool (alarming the selection committee when they discovered that he was only 22). Among his other works are the University Library at Cambridge, the new Bodleian at Oxford, *Battersea Power Station and the rebuilt lobby and chamber of the Commons in the *Houses of Parliament. He also designed Britain's traditional red telephone boxes, much lamented by many when replaced in recent years.
