St Michael's Mount
|
|
Island off the south coast of Cornwall, joined at low tide by a causeway to the village of Marazion. In 1070 it was granted to the *Benedictine monks of Mont St Michel, an even more precipitous island off the coast of Normandy. Since 1647 the St Aubyn family have lived on the island, turning the priory buildings (which date back to the 14C) into the present castle-like house on top of the rock.
