St Asaph

(32km/20m east of Conwy) Cathedral town in Clwyd, in effect not much more than a village on a hill surmounted by the smallest of Britain's ancient cathedrals. A church is believed to have been established here in about 560 by St *Mungo, but the present building dates from the 13–14C and was much restored in the 19C. The cathedral has on display an excellent collection of early printed Bibles and prayer books in Welsh, including the Bible used at the investiture of the prince of Wales at *Caernarfon in 1969.
