Meadow on the south bank of the Thames, just downstream from Windsor, where King *John signed *Magna Carta in 1215. After the assassination in 1963 of John F. Kennedy, an acre of land here was given by the people of Britain to the people of the United States as a memorial to the president. At the top of the nearby Cooper's Hill is the Air Forces Memorial, commemorating the 20,456 airmen of the Allied forces who died in World War II and have no known grave.
