(26km/16m N of Aberdeen) Formal garden in the French 17C style, created from 1675 by Alexander Seton and restored in the 1950s within the surviving walled areas. The main features are four geometrical parterres with the frames (including lettering) provided by low box hedges. The intricate coloured patterns are created each summer by bedding out some 40,000 annual flowers in May.
