(1904–86, kt 1953) Jockey who dominated more than 30 years of British racing. His career spanned 1920–54, and in the 28 seasons from 1925 to 1953 he was *champion jockey 26 times. He holds the record of 4870 wins in Britain and of 269 wins in one season (1947), but he only managed to win the Derby on the last of his 28 attempts (1953 on Pinza).
