Carol Reed
|
|
(1906–76, kt 1952) Film director with theatre in his blood – he was an illegitimate son of the actor-manager Beerbohm Tree. His most creative period was just after the war. *Odd Man Out (1947) was followed by The *Third Man (1949), with a script by Graham Greene; their collaboration extended to two other films (The Fallen Idol 1948, Our Man in Havana 1960). An exuberant finale to Reed's career was his only musical, Oliver! (1968), which won him an Oscar.
