Peter Rachman
|
|
Landlord in Notting Hill in London, whose name entered the language in 1963 in the form of Rachmanism – meaning the purchase of cheap houses with sitting tenants, followed by the use of threats or violence to drive the tenants out, thus greatly increasing the value of the property. Rachman had in fact died, in 1962, before he became notorious for activities of this kind. It was a past connection with the women in the *Profumo affair which brought his name to public attention.
