Prudential
|
|
Insurance company, founded in 1848, which from 1854 pioneered the sale of life insurance to the industrial working classes through the door-to-door collection of regular premiums, usually every four weeks. By the end of the 19th century one out of three families in Britain was insured with the company and 'the man from the Pru' was an established feature of national life. A century later Prudential remains Britain's largest insurance group, though by now offering a more conventional spread of insurance and financial services.
