Prestwick

Golf course on the west coast of Scotland, a little to the north of Ayr, which is the original home of the *Open. The tournament was played here in each of its first 12 years, from 1860, and on several subsequent occasions (the last in 1924). Prestwick airport, once well known to transatlantic passengers, has now been replaced in that role by *Glasgow and is used mainly for freight.
