Petticoat Lane
|
|
(London E1) Thriving and long-established Sunday street market in and around Middlesex Street in the *East End, selling goods of all kinds. The market dates back at least to the 18C and retains the original name of the road (changed from Petticoat Lane to Middlesex Street in about 1830). After many attempts to close it down for illegal *Sunday trading, a special exception was made for it by an act of parliament in 1936.
