Polesden Lacey

(14km/9m NE of Guildford)
House built in the 1820s to a design of Thomas *Cubitt. It is of interest now as a lavish Edwardian country house and garden, created from 1906 by Mrs Ronald Greville. She used her fortune (her father founded the McEwan brewery in Scotland) to equip Polesden Lacey with excellent paintings and furniture as a setting in which to entertain Edward VII.
