|
(SE coast of Anglesey) House facing the Menai Strait, built in its main features in 1793–9 by James *Wyatt. Most of the rooms are in a neoclassical style, but the two most spectacular are *Gothic Revival – the Music Room and the Gothick Hall. The dining room, remodelled in the 1930s, has a huge landscape mural by Rex *Whistler with trompe l'oeil foreground details. Another house called Plas Newydd (Welsh for 'new place') is at *Llangollen.
