The Planets
|
|
Orchestral suite by *Holst, written 1914–16 and first performed in its entirety in 1920. Each of the seven movements is named after one of the nine major planets (Earth was the only deliberate omission, for Pluto was not discovered until 1930). It is unusual among English music of the period in reflecting the influence of avant-garde composers such as Stravinsky.
