(15,000 in 1991) Town in Dyfed, notable for the castle which bestrides a promontory in the tidal reach of the Pembroke river. Its great walls enclose a tall and sturdy cylindrical keep, built in about 1200. The castle was the birthplace and childhood home of Henry Tudor, who seized the crown as *Henry VII.
