Paternoster Row
|
|
(London EC4) Street running along the north side of the churchyard of St Paul's Cathedral, associated with bookselling from the early days of printing. The precise reason for the name is not known, but it derives from the first two words of the Lord's Prayer in Latin (Pater Noster Our Father). The street was destroyed by bombing in World War II, and the north end was rebuilt as a pedestrian precinct under the name Paternoster Square.
