Old Moore's Almanack
|
|
An annual published since 1700 when Francis Moore (1657–1715), a doctor and astrologer in Lambeth, printed his astrological predictions for the next year under the title Vox Stellarum (Latin for Voice of the Stars). Like astrology itself, and equally mysteriously, Old Moore has gone from strength to strength, selling in the millions while still hedging its bets in the time-honoured way; 'Banana skins are waiting for he who thinks he can dominate the international stage' is the type of prediction which has a near-certainty of coming true.
