O come, all ye faithful
|
|
Hymn which is much sung now as a *carol. It is a direct translation by Frederick Oakeley (1802–80) of a Latin hymn having the same rhythm (Adeste fideles, Laeti triumphantes; Venite, venite in Bethlehem). The Latin seems to have been written by an unknown author in either France or Germany in the 18C, as a hymn for Christmas.
