Prince Obolensky
|
|
(Alexander Obolensky, 1916–40) Rugby union player and Russian aristocrat, brought to Britain at the age of one in the year of the Russian revolution. He had only four caps for England, all in 1936, but he is remembered for one particular moment, 'Obolensky's try', which he scored at Twickenham after a long diagonal run through the entire New Zealand defence. He died as a Hurricane pilot in 1940.
