National Trust for Scotland
|
|
Body established in 1931 for the same purposes and along the same lines as the older *National Trust. It has grown with equal success, and it pioneered an influential technique in its Little Houses Improvement Scheme, launched in the late 1950s. Small town houses in places such as *Culross, derelict or in danger of demolition, are bought, restored, modernized in an acceptable manner and then put back on the market with restrictive safeguards, thus enabling the capital in a revolving fund to be used again for similar projects.
