Mulberry harbours

Two massive artificial harbours, capable of berthing large ships, which were constructed in Britain (comprising more than a million tons of steel and concrete) and were floated across in sections to be assembled on the Normandy beaches just after *D-day. Gales severely damaged them in late June, and the remains of one were used to repair the other (they were ten miles apart).
