muffins and crumpets
|
|
Often confused, but alike only in that both are circular, flat, cooked on a griddle rather than baked, and toasted before serving. The muffin ('toasted English' in the USA) is made from a dough similar to bread and is split through the middle before being buttered on the inside surfaces; it is eaten at either breakfast or tea. The crumpet uses a batter which becomes riddled with holes when cooked, enabling it to be saturated with melted butter; it is only eaten at tea time.
