(also known as scrambling) The motorcyle equivalent of a cross-country race, with the riders and their bikes plunging, leaping and slithering round a rugged circuit of natural hazards. First attempted in 1924 at Camberley, in Surrey, it became an international sport after World War II and there has been a world championship since 1957.
