or, The Town of Titipu (1885) One of the *Savoy operas by Gilbert and Sullivan, set in the Japanese town of Titipu. The chief characters are: Ko-Ko, the Lord High Executioner ('I've got a little list'); the girl he plans to marry, Yum Yum, who is one of his three wards ('Three little girls from school are we'); Yum Yum's beloved, the musician Nanki-Poo ('A wandering minstrel I'), who is in fact the Mikado's son in disguise; and the Mikado himself, emperor of Japan, who has a whimsical interest in finding ways to 'let the punishment fit the crime'.
