(stage name of George Galvin, 1860–1904) *Music-hall entertainer, born into the business, trained as an acrobat and contortionist by his parents, and for a while a champion *clog dancer before he eventually settled into his vastly successful routine of rambling personal anecdotes, told very fast and interspersed with songs. His broad straight mouth and bright mischievous eyes were essential ingredients of the fun. He was also famous for his yearly appearances as a dame in *pantomime.
